Mozilla Labs launched a new project Weave which will focus on finding ways to enhance the Firefox user experience, increase user control over personal information, and provide new opportunities for developers to build innovative online experiences.

Open source projects automatically create a social atmosphere. Just check Facebook, phpBB, FireFox, Ubuntu… all these projects and more are represented there while you will be hard pressed to find a group for IE. Natural path for community based projects I suppose
